Edna Louise Crouch Goodyear (1928 - 2011)

Edna Louise Crouch Goodyear, 82, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Arlington. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Global Connection Partnership Network or Mission Arlington through First Baptist Church of Arlington.

Edna Louise Crouch Goodyear was born May 10, 1928, in Estelline to Tom and Muriel Crouch. She was one of five children. She married Don Goodyear on Oct. 30, 1948, and they had two sons, Gary and Charles. She became a registered nurse, graduating from the Lubbock Hospital School of Nursing. In 1952, they moved to Arlington. Edna worked at LTV and at the Arlington Clinic with Drs. Brentlinger, Mycoskie and Bontley. She also taught vocational nursing at John Peter Smith and St. Joseph's hospitals for over 25 years and was a past president of the Arlington Nursing Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church Arlington for almost 60 years and active in the Women's Missionary Union. That passion for service and concern for people caused her to establish the Arlington Women's Shelter and the Mission Arlington Medical Clinic. She also was on the board of directors for the Arlington Night Shelter. Edna traveled the world through nursing tours and missions, visiting the former Soviet Union, Kenya, China, Laos, La Union Mexico, Turkey, Israel, Portugal, England, Nuevo Laredo, Juarez, Costa Rica, Poland and Cuba. She was also known as "the wilderness nurse" in the mountains of New Mexico, where she and Don have their two cabins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Bud, Bob and Jack; and her sister, Elsie.

Survivors: Husband, Don; sons, Gary and his wife, Carolyn, and Charles and his wife, Kay; grandchildren, Gary Don Goodyear of San Antonio, Emily Goodyear Klophaus, Jack Goodyear and Ben Goodyear of Arlington, and Cari Ann Goodyear and Crissa Goodyear Stinnett of Keller; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin Klophaus, Bailey Goodyear, Hunter Stinnett, Abigail Klophaus, Libby Goodyear, Grant Goodyear, Claire Goodyear, Tessa Goodyear, Gillian Stinnett and Jack Alan Goodyear.
