He attended school in Caldwell and graduated from his father's alma mater, The College of Idaho, in 1983. While contemplating attending law school to follow in his father's footsteps, Jess worked as an insurance agent. This began a life-long love affair with being a salesman. Jess worked as an insurance broker with his own successful agency for 26 years until his death.
Jess met his future wife, Valerie, while talking to her on the phone at an insurance brokerage in Salt Lake where she was working. They talked for six months before even meeting in person. They met over Easter in 1987 and married the following December, only missing one weekend apart from the time they met until they married, despite the long commute. They went on to become the proud parents of three beautiful children, Rachel, Cole, and Paris, who were the joys of his life.
Jess' passions included bird hunting with his dog, Tripp, at his beloved Parma property. He loved cooking fabulous meals and feeding everybody he could! Chicken wings, meatballs, and potstickers were typical family Sunday snacks for watching another passion, NFL football and his Philadelphia Eagles.
Jess was loved by all who knew him and they always knew that he "had a guy" to assist friends with whatever project they were working on.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill; his brother, Randy; and his grandparents, Burl and Ruth Randall and Ray and Nita Brauner.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 18, 2011 at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7960 W. Northview Street, Boise, 83704
Memorials may be made to the Humphrey's Diabetes Center, 1226 W. River Street, Boise, ID 83702 in honor of his father who suffered from the disease.
