Rev. Stewart H. Bortner
Rev. Stewart H. Bortner, 59, of Kulpsville, Montgomery County, died August 5 in Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Haas) Bortner.
Services were held Saturday in his church, Christ United Church of Christ, Kulpsville. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Allentown. Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale, was in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Bortner was born at Cold Spring, North Codorus Township, son of Mary Ann (Garver) Snyder, of Hanover.
He graduated from Codorus Township High School in 1945, Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster in 1951, and the Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1954. He served in the Army Air Force in World War II in the Philippines.
He served U.C.C. churches at Stone Church, Allentown, Bethlehem and most recently in Kulpsville, where he had been pastor since 1975.
He was president of the North Penn Ministerium for two terms and was on the board of directors of the Meetinghouse Strings Chamber Orchestra in Montgomery County.
He also is survived by two daughters, Melanie Louise Bortner, Bala Cynwyd, and Susan Ann Bortner, at home; three sisters, Virginia Zartman, Spring Grove, Anna Kime, Orange, Va., and Betty Reaver, Hanover; and four brothers, Kenneth Snyder, Donald Snyder, and Jack Snyder, all of Hanover, and James Snyder, Gettysburg.
