Ora Silen
At her request, no services will be held for Ora Bertha Silen, 84, of Chico, who died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, in Chico.
She was born April 19, 1915, to George and Bertha Palmer in Thompson Falls, Mont.
Mrs. Silen moved to Redwood City at the age of nine and attended schools there. She graduated from Sequoia High School, San Mateo Junior College, and attended San Francisco University for two years.
On Jan. 11, 1935, she married Nathan Silen in San Francisco. He died in 1992.
She worked for the Redwood City School District for 17 years as a secretary. Mrs. Silen was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution , Bidwell Family Association, Inc., Rossmoore Art Association, ACBL, and Chico Women's Bridge Club.
Mrs. Silen enjoyed playing bridge, genealogy, oil painting, and decoupage. She lived in Rossmoore for 30 years before moving to the Chico area. She loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Edith Haehn of Chico; a son, Theodore Silen of San Leandro, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in care of the Neptune Society of Northern California, Chico, which will be handling the arrangements.
