Helen K. Fornari, 88, of Butler passed away Tuesday at the Evergreen Nursing Center in Harmony following a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
Born Nov. 17, 1922, in Sheffield, Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Hanusik Kujava.
Helen was the second youngest of seven children. Her mother passed away in 1933 leaving Helen with many adult responsibilities at an early age.
She was a graduate of Sheffield High School, class of 1940, where she enjoyed writing and art.
During World War II, she worked for Sylvania Electric and the New Process in Warren, Pa. She was employed by Nationwide Insurance in Butler during the 1960s.
Helen was a homemaker who was a fantastic cook, and she also was an avid bird watcher. She also enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting.
She was a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She also served as a den mother for the South Butler Cub Scout Troop.
She had a firmly rooted set of values and a strong sense of fairness and integrity.
She is survived by two sons, Michael L. Fornari of Butler and John A. Fornari and his wife, Rosemarie, of Butler; one sister, Anna "Babe" Kujava Pierson, of Warren, Pa.; two grandchildren, Anna M. Fornari of Baltimore, Md., and Emma P. Fornari of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold R. Fornari, who passed away June 9, 1989; four brothers, Paul Kujava, Joe Kujava, Ludwig Kujava and John Kujava; and one sister, Mary Kujava Ciarmello.
She will be sadly missed by family and friends.
FORNARI - Friends of Helen K. Fornari, who died Tuesday, April 12, 2011, will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the St. Michael Cemetery.
Members of the Bereavement Group of the St. Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. Friday to conduct a scriptural wake service.
