Allan A. Layton, 83, died on Thursday. April 14. 2011 at his home. He was born in Far Hills on January 4, 1928, a son of the late Charles A. and Hattie Coddington Layton. He had resided in Far Hills until moving to Whitehouse in 1949. He was a 1946 graduate of Bernards High School in Bernardsville and attended the Vocational School for Carpenters in Somerville. During World War II he was a spotter for enemy aircraft for the Civil Air Patrol at Voorhees State Park. Mr. Layton was a maintenance carpenter employed by Flemington Fair Grounds and Kuhl Corporation in Flemington for 15 years retiring in 1994. Previously he was employed by Carpenters Union Local 455 of Somerville. After his retirement, he volunteered his services for Hunterdon Health Services benefitting seniors in Hunterdon county. Allan was a member of the East Whitehouse Fire Department for 38 years. He had served as a cub scout master for the Whitehouse Cub Scouts and was a member of several bowling leagues in the Whitehouse area. In earlier years, he played in the Far Hills Softball League.

Mr. Layton is survived by his wife of 63 years. Miriam Ruth Quinn Layton: a son Allan R. Layton of Whitehouse; 3 grandsons, Allan R. Jr., Adam and Michael Layton; and 2 great grandsons, Garrett and Gavin Layton.

A graveside service will be held at the Bedminster Reformed Church Cemetery, Route 202 -200 South. Bedminster on Monday, April 18 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or the Hunterdon Health Services, 2100 Wescott Drive. Flemington. NJ 08822. Arrangements are by Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster.
