"Mr. Arner enlisted in the army for service in the World War on September 9, 1917. He spent some time in training in Camp Meade and on July 5, 1918, he was ordered to France. During the next year, he saw hard service, participating in a number of important battles, including that of the Argonne" (Obituary, Allentown Morning Call, January 6, 1926). His death at the age of 31 was occasioned by the lingering effects of having been gassed during battle.
