EARL BURTON PASSED AWAY TUESDAY P.M.

Local Police Officer Served with 'Polar Bears' in Siberia During World War

---Earl Sylvester Burton, member of the Marshall police force, and who served with the "Polar Bears" in Siberia during the World war, died at his home, 422 Mitchell St. at 5:10 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Death was due to a heart attack, following an illness of several weeks' duration.
---Mr. Burton was born May 31, 1890, in Eckford township, and with the exception of ten years spent in Toledo, he resided in and near Marshall during his entire life. He was married September 5, 1919 to Miss Ethel Fiske at Chelsea.
---Served in Siberia
---Mr. Burton went overseas during the World War with the 85th Division, and served with the "Polar Bears," in Russia and Siberia. Illness contracted during the hardships he suffered while in Siberia was indirectly responsible for his death. He was a member of the Marshall police force for the past five years. He belonged to the Stanley E. Lamb Post of the American Legion and was a member of the Metropolitan club of Battle Creek. Chief of Police William Vosburgh this morning mentioned the faithfulness with which Mr. Burton served the city during his tenure of office.
