Ruth Bushnell
April 13, 1921 - April 16, 2011

Ruth Tina (Laing) Bushnell, 90, of Ottawa passed away Saturday April 16, 2011 at Ottawa Pavilion. Funeral services will be at 10:00 Thursday April 21, 2011 at the Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 Wednesday April 20, 2011 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at Abraham National Cemetery Elwood, IL.

Ruth was born April 13, 1921. She married the late Fred Bushnell in 1941 in Lawton Oklahoma near Fort Sill Army base where Fred was stationed before being sent overseas during World War II. Their wedding was held in the home of the Lutheran pastor who married them. They were married for 63 years before his death in 2004. Over the years she helped operate Long Lake Resort in Plainfield IL, Wilderness Campground in Norway IL, and Bushnell's Riverside Gardens in Plano, IL. Ruth was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary in Ottawa, Grandmas Bowling League and Butterfingers Bowling League also along with her sister Ruby, Illinois State Twin Convention. She was loved by all who met her, including the staff and residents at the Ottawa Pavilion where she spent the last months of her life. One staff members said they will always remember the wonderful smile that Ruth always greeted them with.

Ruth is survived by her children, Ruby Dynneson (Phillip) of Montana, Stanley Bushnell of Ottawa, Shirley Caquelin (Gary) of Marseilles, Richard Bushnell of Marseilles and Edward Bushnell (Carrie) of Marseilles, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Ruth also had many "honorary" children one of them being Ronald Baudino of Marseilles IL. Ronald work for Ruth and Fred for many years and was thought of as one of their own. She often said he was her fourth son.

She is preceded in death by her husband Fred Bushnell, parents, brother and sisters, one daughter in –law Linda Bushnell, grand daughter Traci Lynn Coquelin and great grand daughter Natalie Marie Bushnell.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bushnell, Keith Caquelin, Denny Caquelin, Christine Valentino, Dawn Bushnell and Richard Bushnell.
