Funeral services for W. Clifford Abney, 86, were held Thursday, April 23, at Squire Funeral Home here. The Rev. Harry M. Burns, pastor of Trinity Medodist Church, officiated. Pallbearers were Ward Blair, Aldean Flack, Charles Doty, Harold Reynolds, Carl Mathews and L. W. Sievert. Burial was in Lake City cemetery.
Mr. Abney, son of Elisha and Eliza Abney, was born Sept. 6, 1865, in Vinton, Iowa. In the spring of 1868, the family came by covered wagon to Calhoun county and settled
in what is now Union township. There he grew to manhood. In 1886 he went to Lohrville where he engaged in the mercantile business for a few years.
In February, 1890, he was married to Sarah I. Jones of Manson. They lived in Lohrville until 1893 and then moved to a farm. In March, 1992, they moved to the farm in Sac County which was the family home until they located in Lake City in 1913.
Mr. Abney died April 20, at McCrary-Rost Hospital here.
He was a member of Zerubbebbel Lodge No. 210 A.F. and A.M., having joined the Masonic Lodge in 1919.
His wife, one brother, and five sisters preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Lloyd Abney, Auburn, and Merle Abney, Rockwell City; two daughters, Mrs. Harry Schubert (Ethel, Stockton, Ill.; and Mrs. Winfield Mounds (Mary), Yetter; one sister, Mrs. Eldora Morell, Sitka, Alaska, and six grandchildren.
