Women who died in Tushka tornado were sisters
Sammie Lee Dement, 80, of Tushka, and Ava Walkup, 75, of Sherman, Texas, were killed Thursday in the tornado that passed through Tushka, OK.
The two women who died in Thursday's tornado in Tushka were lifelong friends as well as sisters, a relative said Tuesday.(Daily Oklahoman)

Sammie Lee (Curtis) Dement, age 80, a longtime Atoka area resident. She was born on August 31, 1930 to Orville D. Curtis and Blanche Casey Curtis at Limestone, Ar. Mrs Curtis passed away Thursday, April 14, 2011 at her residence on Boggy Depot Road. At the age of 80 YEARS 7 MONTHS AND 14 DAYS.

She attended Ashland Schools. Sammie was a homemaker and housewife.

She married Leo Dement in Ashland on November 16, 1948.

CHURCH AFFILIATION, HOBBIES, AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: Sammie and Leo joined the New Zion United Methodist Church and were active members in the church and communities of Tushka and Atoka for many years. Sammie and Leo always enjoyed music and singing, bringing joy to many, especially ministering at the local retirement and nursing homes. She was also a fierce competitor at any type of table game. She spent hours with the daughters, sisters, friends and other family members playing games.

Sammie is survived by: HUSBAND: Leo Dement of the home in Atoka, Ok. CHILDREN: Shirley Larsen and husband Larry of Holly Lake Ranch, Tx
Karen Geller and husband Chet of Tushka, Ok
GRANDCHILDREN: Melissa "Missy" Hartley and husband Chris of Allen, Tx. Ethan Evans of McKinney, Tx. Stephanie Loftice of Arlington, Tx
Jimmy Evans of McKinney, Tx. Leah Larsen and husband Mario Villareno of Sulphur Springs, Tx
GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Joe Neal Loftice and Hailynn Loftice of Van Alstyne, Tx
Trevor Evans of McKinney, Tx
Joel & Alexis Villareno of Sulphur Springs, Tx
BROTHER: A.F. Curtis of Coalgate, Ok
SISTER: Lucy Arvella Harrison of Gunter, Tx
Along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
