Reginald Camm was born at Sunbury Park, Middlesex, son of John and Caroline (Arden) Camm. He was educated at Westminster School and Keble College, Oxford, where he graduated with second class honors in the Divinity School in 1887.

Camm studied for the Anglican ministry at Cuddesdon and was ordained a priest by Bishop Thorold of Rochester in 1888. After his ordination Camm served as curate at the church of St. Agnes, Kennington until 1890.

In 1890 Camm was received into the Catholic Church at Maredsous Abbey in Belgium and clothed with the Benedictine habit, taking Bede as his name in religion. He made his solemn vows on 25 DEC 1894.

During WWI Camm became a military chaplain, ministering in Glasgow and Egypt. Camm was demobilised in the spring of 1919 and went to Cambridge as Master of Benet House -- there earning the degree of Master of Arts. Camm held the position at Benet House until his retirement due to ill-health in June 1931.

Dom Bede spent his final months at a nursing home in Clifton where he died on 8 SEP 1942. Dom Bede is buried at Downside Abbey.

Dom Bede Camm, OSB, MA, is remembered for his tireless efforts to promote the cause of the English Martyrs. In addition, Dom Bede wrote several fascinating books about the English Martyrs as well as works on religious art.
