Joachim Wilhelm Bauck was born 03 Apr 1816 in Gross Bellensen, Niedersachsen, Germany; son of Joachim Heinrich and Marie Elizabeth (Falke) Baucke.

Joachim, a tenant farm worker, was united in marriage on 19 Dec 1841 in Nettelkamp with of Catharine Dorothea Lange; daughter of Ernest F. and Dorothea Elizabeth (Heitsch) Lange.

Joachim and Catharine were the parents of 3 children:
1. Johan "John" Heinrich Wilhelm born 1844 married #1Dorothea Marie Strampe and #2 Mrs. Elizabeth (Happel) Schuetz
2. Johan Heinrich Friedrich "Fred" born 1847 married Dorothea Buhr
3. Catharine Dorothee (Dorothy) Elisabeth born 1850 married Johann Wilhelm (William) Hilmer

Joachim became blind in later life and could not work. His son, John, took Joachim to his farm near Perham where he spent the rest of his days.

According to one story, he used to knit, but insisted on using only light-colored yarn. According to another story, he could see enough to walk from John's farm to Fred's farm a quarter of a mile away.

Joachim passed away 14 Nov 1886 in Gorman Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota at the age of 70 years. He was laid to rest in the Bauck Family Cemetery in Perham, Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
