THE CALL CAME TO AGED PASTOR

And Rev. George B. Malmsberry Answered the Death Summons.
The Funeral Services to be Held Tuesday.

Rev. George B. Malmsberry, a well known minister of the Friends church, passed peacefully away at his home, near Garfield, Saturday evening at 4 o’clock, after an illness of about four weeks from hears and lung trouble. The deceased was born near Garfield, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Malmsberry, on March 23, 1841, his father being a pioneer settler where the deceased was born. Soon after arriving at the age of manhood he was united in marriage with Tazetta Cattell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cattell, who survives him. Aside from his wife he is survived by two children, Mrs. Walter Ellyson, of Damascus, and Arvine, residing near Garfield. Also by five grandchildren.

The funeral will take place from the Goshen Friends’ church on Tuesdays at 10 o’clock a.m. Interment in the Goshen cemetery.

Few men had a more extended acquaintance than George B. Malmsberry. For a quarter of a century he had been a recognized minister in the Friends’ church, and for twenty years he was pastor of the Goshen church, of which he was a member. During his pastorate there he built up the Garfield mission, an auxiliary of the church, and saw it flourish, and built a chapel as a house of worship. He also built up a church at Mottown and was pastor of this for five years, resigning as such during the present year. He did extensive evangelistic work for the church and was largely instrumental in building up other churches than those named, which became a part of the Friends’ yearly meetings. For years he was quarterly meeting superintendent of the pastoral and evangelical work within the limits of that meeting, and in the church was recognized as a wise and sage counselor and one endowed with power and full of the Christian spirit. He was a worker for the master in the church and out of it. Not a pulpit orator or a theologian he had an attraction about him in his simple ways of telling the “old story” that won souls. He was a power in the Friend’s church and was not an extremist in his views. A kind word and hearty handshake was always in readiness for all those with whom he came in contact. His great mission was the dissemination of the teaching of Christ and the upbuilding of the church, and those he was eminently successful. Though his lips are sealed his teaching will live forever. The church has lost a beloved pastor, the home a kind and indulgent husband and father, and the community a valued and honored citizen in the death of Rev. George B. Malmsberry. The deceased frequently filled the pulpit of the Friends’ church in Alliance, and has assisted in many revivals in the church in past years.
