His funeral was held on September 18, 2009, at the Church of the Good Shepherd with The Rev. Scott White officiating. He was the son of the late Hugh Horn Battle, Sr., and Maude Arrington and he was the widower of Evelyn Cooper Jeffreys Battle. Additionally, he was preceded in death by a son, Hugh Horn Battle, III, and by a sister, Maude P. Johnson. He was survived by his daughteer, Ruth Battle Brownlee; his grandchildren, Cooper Jeffreys Brownlee, Lauren Abbott Brownlee an Melissa Paige Battle Poland; two great-grandchildren, Rylee Cooper Deloah and Carmen Poland; and an extended family of relatives and friends.
