Matthew was born to Henry Trobaugh and his second wife, Mary Richards. He wed Grace Rodgers in Warren County, Iowa on October 2, 1893. They had:

Matthew moved to Filmore County, Nebraska in 1898, and had:

Matt A. Trobough was born October 21, 1868, in Warren Co., Iowa, and died at the Lincoln sanitarium, March 28, 1917, age 43 years, 5 months and 7 days.
He was married on October 2, 1893, to Miss Grace Rogers, to them eight children were born, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by his wife, four sisters and two brothers. He was a member of the M. W. A. and A. O. U. W. lodges in both orders carrying insurance. He was also a member of the K. of P. lodge. Mr. Trobough was a farmer all his life, and until two years ago farmed northwest of Tobias. The past two years he had made his home near Deweese. His remains were brought here from Lincoln for burial. The funeral was held in the Methodist church Friday afternoon, Rev. E. G. Hibbens of Daykin, conducting the funeral. Interment was in the Tobias cemetery.
