Daughter of Clark Charles Loomis and Elizabeth Eliza Etta D Bumpus

May Loomis was born near Manchester August 12, 18885. At the age of two years she moved with her parents into this city and received all her public school education here with the exception of the last year in high school which she completed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in June 1903. She was accompanied there by her mother, Mrs. E. E. Loomis, and brother, G. E. Snell, who was taking a course in law at Michigan University. The same year Mrs. Loomis and May moved to Cedar Falls where the latter attended normal, graduating from there in 1905 with the degree of M.Di. She accepted a position to teach German and English in the Shell Rock High School and taught there for two years. Although she was offered the position a second time she declined and accepted a similar one in Carroll, Iowa, but her health failed rapidly and on September 13, 1907, May Loomis departed this life in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 22 years. The funeral was held here form the home of Mr. and Mrs. S J. Edmunds, Rev. J. E. Wagner officiating, and interment was made in the cemetery here. Owing to the defective telegraph service many of the relatives could not be notified. Those from away who were present were her mother, Mr. E. E. Loomis of Carroll, her brother, G. E. Snell and his wife of Billings, Montana, two cousins, Mr. Stella Van Duser and Mrs. Cora Zimmerman of Chicago; Mrs. Taylor of Carroll, Iowa, and A. W. Moore, Principal of the Shell Rock High School. May Loomis was the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Clark C. Loomis and was a young lady sincerely beloved by her wide circle of friends. At the age of five she became a member of the Methodist church here and has been a zealous supporter of that faith and was active in Junior League and Sunday School work. Blessed with a cheerful and sunny disposition, ever generous to and thoughtful of others her going is a great bereavement to her surviving family who are her mother, Mrs. E. E. Loomis, her sisters, Mrs. Sam Olmstead of Orwell, New Yorrk, and Mrs. Chas. Edmunds of this city, and her brothers, Harry Loomis of Andover, South Dakota; Charles Loomis of Cheyene, Wyoming, and G. E. Snell of Billings, Montana.
