On June 26, 1942 he enlisted in Boston in the Army and was stationed at the Sioux Falls (SD) Air Force Technical School at the Sioux Falls Army Air Base (now Joe Foss Field), which had a radio operations and mechanics training school. While there, he would receive a medical discharge due to chronic back problems. He was released from the Service on Mar. 9, 1943. He married (for the 2nd time) Aunt Dorothy (Dorothy Pearl Patenaude) sometime in 1945; and they would live most of their lives in Worcester, Mass.
