BYRON HOLCOMBE Obituary
Mr. Byron Van Holcombe passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at his home in
De Kalb, Texas. He was 77.

Byron was born June 21, 1932 in De Kalb, Texas to Sam Earnest Holcombe and Bessie Verta McMillian Holcombe. On October 22, 1950, he married Wilma Jean Payne at the Spring Hill Parsonage in De Kalb, Texas. He was a millwright at Lone Star Steel for 30 years. He was a member of Hubbard Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Holcombe was also honored with an award for his 50 years of membership with the De Kalb Masonic Lodge No. 9.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Payne Holcombe; a son and daughter-in law, Al and Sherry Holcombe of De Kalb, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Dennis Newman of Mt. Pleasant, Texas and Diane and Tommy Winn of Cedar Hill, Texas; a nephew and his wife, Jimmy and Merikay Hawkins; four sisters-in-law, Helen Vickers, Reta Howell, Ruby Brouilette and Wanda Tidwell; two brothers-in-law, Boyd Payne and Bobby Tidwell; grandchildren, Trey and Becky Pirkey, Jason Pirkey, Erick and Amanda Pirkey, Katherine and Ryan Jackson, Chase King, Alex and Amy Newman, Adam and Heather Newman, and David and Samantha Holcombe; great grandchildren, Ethan, Mason, Justice, Derrick, Vance and Margo Pirkey, Ryker Jackson, Collin, Cara, Alivia, and Andrew Newman and Logan Holcombe; and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Van Wayne Holcombe, on February 1, 1997.

Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. ~ 2:30 P.M. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Bates Family Funeral Home.

Services will be held 2:30 P.M. Thursday, October 1, 2009 at Bates Family Funeral Home with Rev. Gregg Fagan and Chaplain Louis Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Hubbard Chapel Cemetery.
