Eva Brunson Purefoy was the owner and operator of the Purefoy hotel in Talledega, Alabama. A well known and highly respected hotel and restaurant. It's meals were known far and wide, having been recognized by Look magazine and other publications. They were so heavily laden the tables were called "groaning boards"
The Purefoy Hotel Cookbook is still under publication after sixty years. Copies can be found on online auction sites. It is a most interesting read with the description of her meals, i.e. keep fire hot, use lard, etc. The tables at the Hotel were built to serve 15-18 people family style.
Her beautiful Victorian home was donated to the Alabama school for the deaf and blind.
She had two children: the late Mary Brunson Purifoy and Robert Peebles Purifoy, Jr.
Unfortunately, the Purefoy Hotel was torn down in the 1960's and one more aspect of southern hospitality and graciousness has been lost.
