Anna Gerdes Flessner was born 24 June 1870 in Livingston County, Illinois. Anna was the first wife of Frederick J. Bruns. In 1870 and 1880, the Flessner and the Bruns families were living next door to each other in the Charlotte, Livingston, Illinois area. On Sep 15, 1888, Fred and Anna married in Livingston County. Anna was 18 and Fred J was 23. They had six children, John Aden, Ina G, Sylvia Esther, George H, Clarence Franklin, and Rose Edith. Anna died Oct 7, 1898 at the age of 28, leaving Frederick a widow with six young children. Frederick remarried in Feb 1900. His second wife was Annie "Nannie" Scheller. Nannie raised all of Fred's children, plus added Anna Mae, Lena E, Sidney A, Fred H, Elva E, Velma F, and Mabel (Maybelle)"Daisy." Fred died in 1930 in Nortonville, KS and Nannie died in 1958 in Denver, CO.
