Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.

Marie Ann Oaks, 84, went to be with her heavenly father on Sunday, June 21, 2009 after a 6 month illness. She was a loving friend to all who knew her.

She was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church of Snowflake, VA. She was a lifelong faithful prayer warrior, loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 54 years, Edward L. (Bud) Oaks, parents, Peart and Lizzie Arnold; several brothers and sisters; Myrtle Childress, Margaret Greene, Ora Hammonds, Paul Arnold and Garvie Oaks, Eva Grace Spivey, Dudley Oaks and Lilly Crawford.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Lynn Hensley and husband, Gene, Kingsport, TN, Kristy Nowatzki, Kingsport, TN; granddaughter, Hilary Grace-Ann Nowatzki, Kingsport, TN; brother, Coy Arnold, Gate City, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Gate City Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Services will be at 8 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Leroy Pierson officiating. Eulogy will be given by Dennie L. Haynes. Music will be provided by Michael Robison.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

The family will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Crawford, Eddie Crawford, Wayne Oaks, Dennie L. Haynes, Mike Brickey and Eddie Oaks.

Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Dennison.

The family would like to thank Wellmont Hospice House for their loving care.
