Bobbie J. Bogart, 80, of Abilene and a former Midland resident, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at an Abilene medical center.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Buffalo Gap Church of Christ, 741 Litel Street in Buffalo Gap, Texas, with Stephen Johnson and Peter McInnes officiating. Burial will follow in Hamby Cemetery in Hamby, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Bobbie was born in Abilene, Texas, on August 27, 1927, the son of Georgia Louise (Philley) and John G. Bogart. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II, and held a bachelor's degree from Abilene Christian College and a Master of Education degree from Tarleton State University.

He worked in the seismic industry for 25 years in West Texas, several other states, and three foreign countries. He was project manager on U. S. Government Research Contracts in the U. S. and several foreign countries.

He began teaching in 1967, teaching math, chemistry, computers and drivers education in high schools and junior colleges, and served as principal at Walnut Springs before his retirement in 1995.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally W. Bogart in August, 2000; his parents; and a brother, Hollis Bogart.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Anne Bogart of Abilene; sons, Brian Bogart and wife, Heather, of Midland, Ed Bogart and wife, Angela, of Abilene, and Robert Wyatt Bogart of Lafayette, Louisiana; two brothers, John D. Bogart and Gene Bogart, both of Abilene; a sister, Elizabeth Woosley of Meridian, Texas; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be David Bogart, Les Bogart, Roger Owen, Marcus Orona, Calvin Bogart and Reford Schmittou. Honorary pallbearers will be Gunnery Sgt.
