Daughter of John Burnett and Mary Howard. She married John Bates on Nov. 1, 1796 in Patrick Co., Va. She and John had ten children: Jesse, Rhoda E., Reubin, Judith, George W., Leroy (Lee), Francis Marion, Frances Lucinda, Sarah Elizabeth, Louisa Etta, all living to maturity.
Her father, John Burnett, died in the winter of 1777/8 at Valley Forge, Pa. He was born about 1750 in Va. He and Mary (Mollie)Howard had two sons and one daughter. His widow, Mary, married second Phillip Stephens ca. 1780.
