Ronald was the son of Robert J. Moore and Mary C. Moore of Manhattan Beach California, enlisted in the US Marine Corps on April 11, 1966 in Los Angeles CA. Arriving in Vietnam he was assigned to Company I, 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

In the vicinity of Phu Son in Hieu Duc District a fire team on a reconnaissance patrol encountered a VC force hidden in a tree line that unleashed a heavy volume of small arms fire and a volley of grenades at the patrol. Assistance was immediately requested by the Marines as they returned fire toward the enemy force and attempted to hold their ground against the superior force. When the reaction force arrived at the scene of the firefight the enemy had fled with all the Marines individual arms and equipment including the PRC-25 radio, two men were found dead, and two were seriously wounded and quickly evacuated.
