US Congressman. As an enterprising young man, he worked on farms, in logging camps, sawmills, shingle mills, shipyards, plus engaged in the wholesale retail tobacco and candy business. He was member of the city council of Raymond, Washington, (1916-18), served in the Washington State House of Representatives (1919-20) and a member of the Washington State Senate, (1925-35). In 1943, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress, serving until 1945. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was reelected to the Eightieth Congress in 1946 and served until his death at age 65.
