Lt. James B. Jordan (1837-1899), of the 26th North Carolina Infantry wrote in mid-March 1865 from Johnson's Island Confederate Prison to his cousin in Kentucky whom he would marry after the war ended. Jordan was wounded and taken prisoner at the Battle of Gettysburg. He humorously called Johnson's Island his "Island Home" after 18 months of captivity there.
