Herman S. Reed, 56, of 1773 Jefferson Ave. SW, died Tuesday at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Chapel. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. James P. Mixon will officiate. Mr. Reed was born in Gadsden. He had been a resident of Birmingham for 50 years. He had been employed since 1957 by the city inspection services department as an electrical inspector. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers, Local 136. He was a member of the West End Highland Baptist Church and a Mason. Surviving are his wife Laura Rogers Reed; a step-son, James L.; two brothers, Slaughter B. Reed of Birmingham, and J.T. Reed of Memphis, Tenn., and seven grandchildren.
