Ruth Eleanor Adamson, 94, of Punxsutawney, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

She was born on April 24, 1920, in Punxsutawney, the daughter of Axel Theodore and Anna Mary (Jones) Nelson.

Mrs. Adamson graduated from Punxsutawney Area High School.

She married Myron J. Hutchins in 1941, who preceded her in death. She subsequently married Ralph Edward Adamson, who was a U.S. Navy veteran. He preceded her in death, as well. Ralph was more than just her husband. He was her companion, a devoted father and her best friend. Ralph was a good man who was loved by many.

Mrs. Adamson was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ. As an active member of the community, Ruth developed the Ladies Auxiliary of Eagles, where she became a charter member and served as Madam President and Regional Director for a number of years. She was also a member of and a former president of the Elk Run Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. In addition, Ruth was an avid and talented bowler, having participated in a number of state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed camping and being outdoors.

Surviving relatives include four children, a son and three daughters. Her son is Eric R. Hutchins and wife Deborah of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her three daughters include Linda G. (Hutchins) McAfoos of Punxsutawney, Joan Harris and husband Mickey of Coolspring and Doris Krupiewski and husband Kevin of Norristown, Pa.

Ruth is also survived by 13 grandchildren and their families, Dana Hutchins and Chris Shinhold, Eric “Hutchins, Nancy Hutchins and husband Paul Kenworthy, Brenda and Doug Craft, Douglas and Melissa McAfoos, Tina and Thomas Miller, Dee Dee Moore and Eric Fallara, Jennifer and Dale Coleman, Kelly Casa de Achaval, Melissa and Matt Smith, Kevin and Kathryn Krupiewski Jr., Gerald Krupiewski, Stacy Krupiewski and Jess Savitsky.

She is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Special friends who were dear to her include Jim McAfoos, Norma S., Gary of USPS and Grandpa Roberts.

Mrs. Adamson was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and two brothers, Robert Owen Nelson and Theodore Axel Nelson.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Johnny Pennington.

Interment will follow at Mahoning Union Cemetery, Marchand, Pa.
