H. Philip White, 65, of 130 Manning Drive, North Syracuse, died Monday at his home after a brief illness.
Mr. White was born in Liverpool and resided in North Syracuse 34 years. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Liverpool 32 years before retiring in 1978.
Since his retirement, Mr. White was employed by Sweetheart Markets in North Syracuse. He was a communicant and usher of St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse.
During World War II, Mr. White served in the Army Air Corps. He flew 65 missions as a tail gunner in a B-26 bomber with the 9th Air Force in Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 13 clusters.
Mr. White was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7290 in North Syracuse and Disabled American Veterans Cooney-Nojaim Post 80. He was also a member of American Legion Post 188, American Association of Retired Persons and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Surviving are his wife, Peg Robb White; two daughters, Lisa Arnold and Patty Stokes, both of North Syracuse; a son, Randy of Liverpool; three sisters, Marie Giers of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Honora Pare and Jean Condon, both of Liverpool; seven brothers, James of Polk City, Fla., Benton C. Jr., Lewis, Earl P. and Richard, all of Liverpool, and Thurlow J. of LaFayette and Robert L. of Red Creek; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at Maurer Funeral Home, Liverpool, and at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Nortz. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today (March 10) and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or NAVAC.
