Husband of Sarah Emily (Ludwick) Semple (1847-1903). Son of Charles and Jemima Semple. Father of ten children. Lemuel was a private in the 12th Pennsylvania Cavalry, Co. L, during the Civil War. Lemuel spent about a year inthe US National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Danville, IL before returning home to Keokuk, Iowa, where he died at the age of 58. He was 28 years old and living with his wife and three children in Corydon, Iowa in June of 1871 when Jesse James and his gang came into town to rob the bank. Lemuel and Sarah's children are: Eliza Blanche, Charles H., Harry W., Lott Jacob and Linn David (twins), Anna Maude, May B., Nellie Gertrude, Fred Wilson and Lola M. Semple.Pvt US Army
