Services Held Thursday, for John Rahn
John Rahn, 76, retired Bruce township farmer and former La Porte City business man, succumbed to death Tuesday at 4 a.m. in the Ramus Convalescent home, where he had been a patient for a week.
Death was due to the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered 10 days earlier. He had been in poor health for several years.
John Frederick Rahn was born to Hans Frederick and Christina Witt Rahn, pioneer Benton county settlers, on Feb. 26, 1879 on the Rahn homestead 3 1/2 miles south of La Porte City in Bruce township.
Implement Dealer
He grew to manhood on the family farm and later farmed the land. From 1912 to 1920 he lived in La Porte City and was a member of the Iowa Implement Co. for several years before becoming sole owner of the establishment.
In 1920 he returned to the farm where he was born and operated it until his health failed. The farm remained his home until his death.
He received his education in Bruce No. 6 rural school and the Tilford Academy in Vinton.
In September of 1918 he was united in marriage to Julia Grau at Cedar Falls. She died in December 1918 and he married Ida Weed at Independence in June of 1922.
Surviving are one son, J.F. (Junior) Rahn, at home; one brother, Fred Rahn and three sisters, Mrs. Christina Eckhart, Miss Mary Rahn and Mrs. I.D. Chester, all of La Porte City.
His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Services Thursday.
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Johannsen Funeral Home. Dr. James W. Bean pastor of First Presbyterian church of which he was a member, will officiate. Organ music will be played by Mrs. Herbert Johannsen.
Casket bearers will be Dean Vaubel, Herman Scheel, Myron Baish, George Klar, Robert Glime and Everett Fox.
Burial will be in the family lot in West View cemetery.
