CLINTON -- Carolyn M. Seymour, 89, a resident of Coachlace Healthcare Nursing Center, 250 Main St., formerly of Fitchburg, died Thursday, Oct. 17, in the nursing center.

She was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Littleton, the daughter of Clarence E. and Eva (Backus) Seymour, and was raised in Fitchburg, living at 26 Clinton St. in her youth. She resided many years in the city and later for a short time in South Lancaster before moving to Clinton in 1992. She graduated from Fitchburg High School, the former Burbank Hospital School of Nursing and Stevens Business College, both also in Fitchburg.

Ms. Seymour worked many years for Dr. Leo A. Young of Fitchburg before she retired. Previously, she was a nurse at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg.

She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church. A foster mother to more than 300 children since 1940, she was reportedly the first single woman in the state allowed to adopt a child.

She leaves a son, Robert Seymour of South Lancaster; nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

She was predeceased by a brother, Albert H. Seymour, on June 23, 2001, and a sister, Evangeline Albert, on Nov. 24, 2001.

SEYMOUR -- On Oct. 17, in Clinton, Carolyn M. Seymour, 89, formerly of Fitchburg. After cremation,, burial in Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg. No calling hours. Memorial service to be held at time to be announced. Arrangements by Aubuchon-Moorcroft Funeral Home, Fitchburg.
