California. He played an instrument in a band out west. He and a friend fileda gold claim in Gold Hill, Ventura Co., CA. The Riverside, CA forestry office should have the exact location. He traveled to CA with Ed Hardy & Art Ragland according to a photo that Nora Ann B. Johnson has.

He Was a great gardener but not much of a farmer due to lack of interest.
Spent all his formative years caring for his father.
Had "Walnut Glen" broom factory, a canning factory, & a mill among other things.
Was very inventive and designed many things for himself and others but never made much money with his ideas.
