Staff Sgt. David P. Day, 26, of Gaylord, Mich., died April 24 while conducting combat operations in Badghis province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, N.C. In addition to his wife, Nicole, David is survived by his parents, Don and Kathy; sister, Samantha Day; grandparents, Janice and Pirie Benson of Gaylord, and Grace Day of Missouri; mother- and father-in-law, Robert (Patricia) Makins and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Arthur Day.
