He graduated from Northwood Academy in Lake Placid, New York and attended Cornell University where he was rushing chairman of his fraternity, Chi Psi. He started a business called the J. C. Baxter Company in Minerva and made it go from 1944 until almost 1970 when he wanted to retire and relax. unfortunately his beloved wife would only live a couple of years after they retired to Arizona.
