Geo. W. Dauth, a well-known citizen and business man, died at his residence, 1122 Perkiomen avenue at 3:30 p.m. yesterday after two weeks' illness of nervouse dyspepsia and congestion of he brain. He was born in Philadelphia Aug. 13, 1844, and was in his 43rd year. His parents removed to this city during his infancy, and upon attaining his majority he engaged in business on 8th street near Penn. In 1869 he started in business for himself near the Union house, and two years later removed to the location at present occupied by his store, 940 Penn street. He was a member of the order of Red Men, camp 61, P.O.S. of A., and of the Rainbow fire company, and served as assistant engineer of the fire department in 1874. He took a great interest in fire department matters and was a very active member of his company. In his early years he fond of athletic exercises and was an accomplished horizontal bar performer. Deceased was widely known not only in the city, but in the county having done business in many sections of this district. Mr. Dauth was married to a daughter of Charles Breneiser. The widow and two children and deceased parents and brothers survive.
Before his death Mr. Dauth requested a post-mortem be made, and in accordance therewith Drs. Martin Luther and S.C. Ermentrout made the examination and found that death resulted from inflamation of the brain.
