Nov. 22, 1883
In Memoriam.
In this village, on Thursday morning, November 22nd, 1883, Claudius G., younger son of Toliff and Jane Fladeland, aged 21 years and eleven months.
Although not unexpected, the announcement of the death of Claud Fladeland will be a shock to this entire community, where he was so well known and universally esteemed and respected. Cut down in the prime of life, his untimely decease is peculiarly sad. The blow falls with crushing weight upon his parents, who see their bright hopes vanish. His brother, John N., arrived on the night train, in time to have a farewell interview with his brother, whose mind was a clear and unclouded as when he was in perfect health.
The disease which claimed him was consumption, which first showed itself last winter, and meantime all the care and attention which money could command has been at his service, but he gradually failed to the end. His bright, cheery disposition made him a general favorite, and he will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends.

He came to America with his parents in 1843, they settling in Dane county, Wisconsin, where our subject was reared, engaged in farming pursuits. He was first employed as a clerk for Moore & McClure, and afterwards for Mr. Moore, until 1871, when he started a general store on his own account and still continues in that line. Mr. Fladeland was married in 1858, to Claudine Brun, of Norway; she died in 1864, leaving two children; John N. and Claudius. He married again in 1866, to Jane O. Kalstovg, also of Norway.
