CUMBERLAND — Donald "Donnie" J. Andrews, 70, of Cumberland, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph Francis and Alma Grace (Murray) Andrews.
Donnie had cerebral palsy all his life. He was someone who would not let his disability hold him back. He was very well known throughout the community. He loved to write and play games on his computer. Donnie enjoyed writing articles and poetry, and he had a book of poetry published. He always wanted to prove to the public that it was possible to be handicapped and still be productive to society. Donnie was very intelligent; a source of good company, and people would just take to him. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are 10 brothers and sisters, Nancy Saville and husband James, Branson, Miss., M. Ruth Wolford, Oldtown, Charles Owen "Buck" Andrews and wife Virginia, Cumberland, James Andrews and wife Jeannie, Clearville, Pa., Joan Greise, Ridgeley, W.Va., Mary Squires and husband Ronnie, Flintstone, Frances McFarland and husband Donald, Ridgeley, Michael Andrews and Pat, Cumberland, Rebecca Wright and husband Mike, Monroe, N.C., Teresa McCusker and Derek Campbell, Cumberland; and a very large number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., (scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church on Monday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
