U.S. Congressman. In 1871, he moved to Kansas, engaged in agricultural and became a member of the board of school commissioners serving 1873 to 1888. He was also twice president of the Kansas State Farmers' Alliance and Industrial Union and twice vice president of the national organization of that order. As a Populist, he was elected to the Fifty-second Congress serving March 4, 1891 to March 3, 1893. Not seeking re-election, he resumed agricultural pursuits until his death.
