William Henry Black was the son of Henry and Orpha Brown Black. Henry, the father, was born on 12 Dec 1816 and died on 13 July 1896. Henry served during the Civil War with the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (112th Pa Regiment) for approximately 10 months before being medically discharged due to "camp fever". His son, James Taylor Black, also served in this regiment. Henry is buried in Oak Grove Cem., Uniontown, Pa - New Sect: Lot 13. Orpha was born on 03 Aug 1819 and died on 19 July 1882. She is buried in the Leckey Burial Ground; McClellandtown, Pa. Henry and Orpha had seven (7) children: William Henry b. 19 Aug 1839, d. 26 Aug 1855; Sarah Elizabeth b. 03 Aug 1840 d. 26 Sep 1924; Samuel Wakefield b. 05 Oct 1842 d. 1845; James Taylor b. 12 Mar 1846 d. 07 Apr 1908; John Henry b. 07 Apr 1848 d. unknown; Alexander Fillmore b. 12 Jan 1850 d. 09 July 1922; and Evans Wilson b. 27 Dec 1853 d. 21 Feb 1932.
After Orpha's death, Henry married Matilda Franks on 1 May 1885. Matilda was born 13 Dec 1829 and died on 30 Mar 1893. Matilda is buried in Oak Grove Cem; Uniontown, Pa - New Sect. Lot 13. No known children resulted from this marriage.
