Dr. Albert Woomer, 82, 264 Baltimore St., died Tuesday afternoon at 2:15 at the Warner Hospital from the effects of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered early Tuesday morning. He had been admitted to the hospital Tuesday morning at 4:00 and had been in declining health since Chirstmas.
A native of Penn Twp., Schuylkill County, he had served as a physican at Cashtown for 50 years and for the last 20 of those years had been an eye specialist. He was honored on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as a aphysicain by the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
He had served several terms as Adams County coroner a number of years ago.
A man of many interests, he was a graduate of Millersville Teachers college, receiving both a bachelor and master's degree there; he received a master's degree from Taylor University. He studied medicine at both Baltimore Medical College and Kentucky University, receiving his Doctor of Medicine degree from the latter institution. He also studied law, graduated from the Indianapolis Law School and was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of Indiana and the U.S. Circuit Courts, but never practiced. He taught school in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before beginning his medical practice at Cashtown more than a half century ago. He moved to Gettysburg about three years ago.
In connection with his medical studies he was a pupil at the Lying-In Hospital at New York City and took advanced work at the Willis Eye Hospital.
He was a member of the Salone Lodge of Masons, 145 of Cedarville, N.J. and of the Cashtown Fire Co.
His wife, the former Arra Hartzell, died September 18, 1932. He is survived by a sister in Lehighton, and a half brother, Herbert Woomer, New Ringgold.
Private funeral services Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the Bender Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Koontz, Littlestown, officiating. Interment in Flohr's Cemetery.
