Her life as a Home Maker and in Assisting Husband in Success Praised at Funeral Monday Afternoon.
The funeral of Mrs. Mary A Bixby, wife of Dr. A.L. Bixby, was held at Trinity Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:30. The casket was covered with flowers and the alter rail was hidden in a mass of floral offerings.
Rev. H.B. Rhodes read a number of passages of scripture and spoke of Mrs. Bixby as a member and attendant at his church. He had known her since he came here and appreciated her as an earnest Christian woman.
Dr. Walter Altken spoke words of comfort to the bereaved, told of his long friendship with the Bixby family, and said that it was certain that she had been the inspiration for much of her husband's success in life, contributing to his work as his writings had frequently shown.
Dr. J.D.M. Buckner spoke of Mrs. Bixby as the Mother of a family of fine children taught and reared to manhood and womanhood under her care. He exalted motherhood and said that Mrs. Bixby had fulfilled her mission in caring for her family and training her children.
Rev. Mr. Rhodes closed the impressive service by reading a number of tributes to the departed from newspaper and from friends.
Closing with the personal note printed over Dr. Bixby's signature
The pallbearers were chosen from Dr. Bixby's associates at the State Journal.
The casket was lowered into a flower covered and lined grave at Wyuka after an impressive but short ceremony ending with prayer and the benedictions.
