Miss Bell was my homeroom teacher, my first year at East High. She had a great sense of humor, and one of the boys in the class asked her, "If she sat up all night thinking of retorts." She was great at handling the smart aleck boys in her classes. She did it with affection and humor. She not only taught us math, but she taught us life lessons. We talked about all sorts of things in her classes. She would come around to our desks to check our work, and pick a math problem, that we had mastered. She would then have us go to the blackboard, and explain the steps in solving that problem. This way she didn't embarass anyone. It gave us more self confidence. She was a great teacher.
