Thomas Adubato was a Detective for the Police Department in Newark, New Jersey. He served 19 years for the Police Force, dying in the line of duty at age 46. Detective Adubato was in New York City on assignment, attempting to arrest a murder suspect wanted in Newark, New Jersey. Detective Adubato was with a New York City Police Officer when he was shot during the arrest attempt and the New York City Officer was wounded. Though Detective Adubato was mortally wounded, he picked up the other wounded Officer and carried him down five flights of stairs to safety, before collapsing. Detective Adubato was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he soon died from his wounds. The suspect was never charged in connection with Detective Adubato's death, but was convicted of the original murder he was charged with, and executed.
