Officer Alex Mattus, DSN 1357, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 11/01/1945. Upon graduating from the Saint Louis Police Academy he was assigned to the 3Rd District. He spent the majority of his career in the Intelligence Division as a detective. During the later part of his career before he retired he was assigned to the Records Division. He retired from the department on 01/29/1977. He was then rehired as a Civilian Clerk on 01/30/1977 in the Records Division and remained there until he retired from that position on 03/28/1979 with a total of 33.40 years of dedicated service. During his career he was awarded 1 Department Award of Excellence on 01/01/1973, and 2 Letters of Commendation on 04/25/1975 and on 06/07/1976 for outstanding police work.

Mr. Mattus was a retired Saint Louis Police Officer having served 32 years on the force from 1945 to 1977.

Beloved husband for 67 years to the late Marian A. Mattus (nee Bloss); loving father of Kathleen (Doc) Albers, Rosemary (Bill) Reisse, Joe (Suzi) Mattus, James Mattus and John Mattus; dear grandfather of Tim, Michelle, Karen, Cheryl, Kelly, Kyle and Kara; dear great-grandfather of 10; loving uncle of Linda Mattus.

Alex's greatest legacy was love love of God, love of family and friends and love of life. His kindness, generosity and great sense of humor will be missed and forever remembered.

Services: Funeral from KUTIS AFFTON Chapel, 10151 Gravois, Friday, April 29, 12:30 p.m. to St. Dominic Savio Church for 1 p.m. Mass. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Visitation Thursday, 4-8 p.m.
