JACOB R. STOFER
Jacob R. Stofer, son of Jacob G. and Nancy A. Stofer was born August 30, 1873, in Illinois City, Ill., and passed away Januray 3, 1950, at his home in Scandia, after a prolonged illness of a year's duration. At the time of his death he was 76 years, 4 months and 4 days of age.
In February 1877, at the age of 3 1/2 years he came in a covered wagon with his parents, two brothers and two sisters to Jewell County, Kansas and settled on a homestead 1 1/2 miles south of Lovewell.
In a short time they moved to a farm three miles north and 1/2 east of Formoso, which became their family home.
He engaged in farming for himself near Lovewell. Later he moved to Scandia.
On September 26, 1900 he was united in marriage to Zenia Pauline Moe at Belleville. They made their home in Scandia until they moved to a farm near Sherdahl. From this beginning his interests were devoted to farming, the raising of livestock and the buying and selling of horses and mules.
Through their untiring efforts, steadfastness, perseverance and ambition, he with his wife developed a home of respect and high esteem among the citizens of this community.
Two sons, Jacob Paul and Louis Fredrick were born to this couple.
Mr. Stofer has been a loyal supporter and booster for all civic enterprises and activities of the community. He had an outstanding love for home and community life. He possessed a remarkable personality. His zest for living and interest in other people made him a favorite wherever his presence was known.
In his prolonged illness, the last year, he remained of pleasant disposition, uncomplaining attitude under the constant care of his devoted wife.
He is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughter-in-laws, and one grandchild, Jacob Gordon Stofer. One brother, Ben Stofer of Superior, Nebr., and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Jennings of Formoso and Mrs. May White of Scandia. Many other relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances.

A duet composed of Mrs. Reynold Nystrom and Mrs. Joyce Johnson, accompanied by Mrs. Joseph Johnson at the organ, furnished the music which consisted of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" "Whispering Hope" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
