A native of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Arnold Byrd and Millie Brown Nelms. She was a homemaker and was formerly married to Lewis Sims.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Blackwell; daughters, Beth Pate of Social Circle and Elizabeth Langley of Grayson; sons, Gary Sims, Eric Blackwell and Jody Blackwell, all of Monroe, Kenneth Sims of Social Circle and Jeff Sims of Walnut Grove; sister, Wanda Geiger, brothers, Lamar Byrd, Joe Byrd and Travis Byrd, all of Monroe; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by a brother, Hoyt Byrd and children, Clayton Sims, Eddie Sims and Joseph Blackwell.
