Son of James Francis Brown (1850-1920)and Meakey Jane Vaughn (1866-1916).
He was known as Hunter Brown although the WWI draft registration is signed "General Hunter Brown." He was described as tall, slender, blue eyes, light hair; working as a farmer for "J. F. Brown" (his father), living RFD2, Naylor, Ripley, Missouri, dated 12 Sep 1918. In the 1910 census he is in the household of his father and mother in Brown Township, Clay, Arkansas. In the 1920 census, he is in his father's household in Carpenter, Clay, Arkansas, interpreted by Ancestry.com as "Harlin" Brown. He married Obera Cox on 16 February 1921 in Clay County, Arkansas. His daughters were born in 1922 and 1924.
In May of 1927, Hunter and his brother Sam went from Fisher, Arkansas to Poplar Bluff, Missouri, looking for work. A deadly tornado struck on May 9, 1927, killing Hunter, along with 67 other people and demolishing downtown Poplar Bluff. His body was sent back to Fisher, Arkansas for burial in Fisher Cemetery, Poinsett, Arkansas.
After Hunter's death, Obera, married Felix Smith. They are both buried in Stephens Cemetery, Stephens, Ouachita, Arkansas. Obera was born 18 Sep 1899 in Middlebrook, Randolph, Arkansas, died on 4 Feb 1968 in Stephens, Ouachita, Arkansas.
