Roland A Bode of Saginaw, Michigan passed away December 24, 2010. Age 92 years.

Roland A Bode was born June 26, 1918 in Vernon Center, Minnesota, to Henry C and Maria Friedrich Bode.

He was baptized at St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Willow Creek, Minnesota. He was confirmed March 20, 1932.

He completed all eight elementary years at St John's Lutheran School at which his father was the only teacher. He graduated as a teacher from Dr Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, in June of 1940, and taught school for a total of 24 years, serving in Glencoe, Minnesota, Sebewaing and Saginaw, Michigan, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Richville, Michigan.

He was an area representative for Aid Association for Lutherans for 21 years, and did accounting work for Lutheran Association for Church Extension (LACE) for 14 years.

He was a member of St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. In each of the congregations, he was an active member, serving on church councils in various capacities.

In 1942 he married Esther A Gruendemann, the love of his life, and a graduate classmate at DMLC. She predeceased him on February 27, 2010, after 67 years of marriage. This union was blessed with six daughters and one son.

He is survived by Judith Zitter, Cortland, New York; Louise (Rev Carl) Pagel of St Joseph, Michigan; Edith (Malcolm) Sillars of Buena Vista of Colorado; Lorna (Thomas) Fryer of Midland, Michigan; Rev Prof Marcus (Karen) Bode of Saginaw, Michigan; Charlene (Curtis) Jaeger of Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Daughter, Annette Kay, predeceased him in 1973.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Eunice (Robert) Schwint, Minnesota.

He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Julie Annette Fryer, 5 brothers, and 5 sisters.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1020 Court St at Bond St Rev William Brassow will officiate. Friends may call at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, on Monday from 3pm-5pm and 6pm-8pm and Tuesday at the church from 10am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on Court and Bond Sts.
